We Spent 46$ Boosting A Contest Post… Was It Worth It?

When we did the Paul Wall & Jeru The Damaja shows back in 2023, we ran some IG contests and boosted the posts

For Paul Wall we spent 16$. For Jeru the Damaja we spent 22$, overall I can’t say I felt happy after. This time we’re opening for Lloyd Banks, we went all out and dropped 46$. This time however, I was able to choose “Lloyd Banks” as an interest.

The ad is still running but I’m pleased to say we’re seeing some results off of it.

Many people feel weird about paying for promo, but since I sell promo I figure I’d chime in with how I felt about our ad spend.

Boost posts with something other than awareness in mind

In our case we wanted to increase the number of people participating.

Ideally we wanted the contest post to reach people beyond our networks, and bring some fans into the fold. We focused the contest entirely on Lloyd Banks, you may notice should you check that I say to tag me when sharing, but I needed a way to keep track of the shares.

The mission was not to raise awareness. The mission was to sell tickets by giving some tickets away. All I’ll say is mission accomplished and sometimes you gotta spend money to make money.

A lot of people feel weird paying to boost a post because they don’t understand when to pay. When you can get money directly from your effort, then boosting the post makes sense. You can go amount gained minus amount spent and decide the value.

Moving on pas the cheddar, what kind of results did we get?

There are four new people who messaged me related to the post

In a lot of industries, paying 10$ to talk to a potential lead (or fan) would be considered a steal.

There are 18 comments from 13 people who are now entered into the contest. The post has been shared 37 times and saved once. I know at least two people, who chose not to engage with the post, have asked me if I paid for the ad, because they saw it sponsored.I also saw the ad… despite being the account that paid for it… wasting a whole ass penny.

Before this round I never realized the real potential for lead gen a paid ad campaign can have, I think a few good ads can make a person a lot of money.

The typo we made probably helped more than it hurt

In all fairness you shouldn’t have any typos, and we did.

I pushed the authorize button on the ad and didn’t even double check. Then when it was too late, we were off. But I wonder if people seeing the typo made them trust us more.

That was not AI, that was a human person making a mistake. I wonder if the error made people linger longer and do a double take. Go back in the stories to see if we’d really be so careless.

We were.

Either way we ran this ad and so far I think the results are worth what we spent. Never in the past has anyone DM’d me before over an ad… and then kept on talking to me.

Big wins for both our knowledge and that a few new strangers know we’re doing the Lloyd Banks show on July 3rd at Belmont.
