The Cyberpunk 2077 Board Game Looks Real Cool

This company Go On Board has the full blessing of CD Projekt Red to create the official Cyberpunk 2077 Board Game

Both IGN and the Cyberpunk 2077 channel dropped the following trailer.

I’ve always enjoyed board games. Over the years I’ve sunk my teeth into a few complicated ones, at one point owning the World of Warcraft Board Game (and its expansion). One of the best games I’ve played in recent years was Betrayal at House on the Hill. Those story driven tile games with purpose and personality really get me going.

Over the years I fell off playing board games, but I am a big fan of Cyberpunk 2077 and this game looked like a cool collectible even if the game is trash.

From what I see on YouTube the game looks cool AF and is not in fact trash.

Or at least my amateur board gamer self should find it riveting and novel.

I will need to recruit a party of 3 others to stream this game with

This game has a timer and requires coordinated cooperation to win.

While you can swap in new people, it means there will be a skill component that is learned over time the new person does not have. A new person will probably struggle to handle late game campaign missions.

While there is replayability, I imagine you’ll want to finish the game before starting over to add a new friend to the mix.

I think the experience would be best explored with the same group of people, committed to experiencing the game in full.

Before stretch goals, the game features 13 missions that tell a story. It’s accompanied by an app that may even help keep track of progress as the story progresses. There seem to be some choices you can make that may affect the game later on.

Mostly the app is a timer.

No one knows what the late game is like, but it does feel cool to know that this game will be a group session akin to the video game.

The gameplay loop is fast paced but easy for noobies to follow

The game has missions, which come with set tiles and instructions/goals.

There is the primary mission. Then there are bonus objectives that will take additional time, but provide additional rewards. There is also loot in the game just lying around the floor.

You will have a set number of rounds to complete the mission and escape, or you fail. Each round has a literal timer that keeps up the suspense and urgency. You’ll play cards, triggering effects and working with your team to max out stats and do some damage.

While it sounds complex they managed to make it so that it’s actually easy to pick up and play.

Each card has symbols, the different symbols create actions. You play a card, complete the action, move on.

Between each round you have a cooldown period where you can stop, regroup and strategize.

It would probably take a team 30 minutes to get the hang of it all.

It’s designed to be multiple sessions played in 90 minute chunks

Because of the timer and mission length, with setup, each mission would take about 90 minutes to complete.

That’s assuming you complete the mission on your first try.

With the current set of stretch goals there are now 17 missions with the possibility of that number breaking 20 at the current pace of funding. These missions tell a story in a sequence. Then you are somehow able to explore Night City between missions and they just keep adding Fixers with more quests to complete.

They have managed to make this game a story driven adventure to be played with friends with side content to break up the flow.

While I’ve not played it, from what I see on YouTube it looks like a fun time.

While I’ve got to wait until December 2025 for this game, it has me wondering what other board games are this cool.

Maybe I’ll get more into the world of board games again.

Live Long and Prosper Everyone
