Stickers Are A Powerful Marketing Asset

For years I avoided stickers because I worried about the environmental impact… literally.

This was silly. I could have been slapping my logo around everywhere I went for years. I watch most of my peers do it. Then a year and a half later I see their stickers still up, advertising their brand subtly among the urban landscape. Sometimes those stickers can even spread all over the world.

They are cheap and easy to produce and in addition to potentially illegal behaviour, they serve as a bonus item for bigger merch sales.

There are entire brands that made their existence known via the power of well placed stickers.

People actually notice things like stickers that shouldn’t belong

In a hypothetical situation, if I put a pickle up on the window every time I take the metro, people would start seeing it.

Since I have a car this is never going to happen, but you can picture the person sitting there, lost in their own world idly noticing this random pickle sticker. If they are anything like me, they’ll briefly wonder about it.

Then one day if you place enough of your stickers in enough clever places, they may be seen again. Only now it pops out more because they’ve seen it before. I often think about Montreal’s Mook Life wave.

Literally everyone I know of a certain age is aware of Mook Life because of stickers, even if they have no idea what Mook Life is.

Still, people will hold themselves back like I did all the time.

Take some time to find a logo that reflects your brand

You can get a really amazing looking design done on Fiverr for very little money.

Take some time to really come up with a concept that reflects your brand. If you really are struggling to be creative, pay a designer to do something cool with your name. You don’t have to commit to this logo for life, but get started with something.

I say this from a place of waiting 10 years to land on a pickle scheme to push merch, but that was a blunder. I should have pushed my logo with my name on it, or the Behind That Suit logo, for years. I’d be farther along by now.

Still you need to take real time to figure out how you want to visually represent your brand. If you are stuck, hire someone like me to help you come up with an idea or two.

I promise it’s not that expensive.

Stickers are not that expensive all things considered

When you look into it, for a couple of hundred dollars you can get a lot of stickers.

One of the hacks I use to manage stuff in smaller chunks is watching for Sticker Mule deals (this is my affiliate link). Every week they have a deal and you can get 50 stickers for like 25$ or something. This is not the most efficient sticker price, but it gives you a way to get some stickers in your pocket fast without breaking the bank.

When you get into bulk purchasing, you can drop stickers down to pennies on the unit. Get a few designs and sell sticker packs for 3-5$. Big profit margin there if the designs are dope.

Anyhow don’t be afraid to jump onto archaic trends that work. Put your sticker up everywhere you travel. Show the world you exist in a subtle way.

Worst case scenario, someone takes it down.
