Opening for Lloyd Banks Pt. 1: Before The Show

Writer's picture: Holden Stephan RoyHolden Stephan Roy

Today is July 3, 2024, the day Lloyd Banks is scheduled to perform at Le Belmont in Montreal.

I’m supposed to meet the team there around 6:30 PM but I’m likely going in early on a mission to find free parking. Then we’ll have a sound check. The doors will open and the show will begin.

Overall I’m excited. We’re well prepared and I know the rest of the lineup will come correct. This will be a great night, one that the cliché’d may call a movie.

As I write this I feel the anxiety of waiting kicking in.

It’s show day.

We prepped a spectacle for the people

We chose our songs and our theatrics to respect the time slot we’ve been given.

We even rented a rehearsal space to practice our stage placement. We thought about the performance beyond the songs and we know the crowd is in for a treat. Everyone involved has experience, we’re excited.

We’re on a mission to show people we’re main event material.

When you book us the people will be entertained.

We come with no regard.

We’re not the first act and I’m so stoked

The deeper you are in the lineup, the more people see you.

So often I’m in the opening slot and people apologize to me after missing my set. Not today, we did our work promoting this show and got a really cool place on the lineup. It should not be an empty room.

The real value in these shows comes from the bigger audience size.

High key this has put me in a really good mood.

Given this lineup it’s tough to pick a good order, I’m just happy with how it turned out.

Every show cements our legacy further

Each time you bless a mic, there’s a good chance someone will remember you.

The more you get out there and perform, the more people you will impact. Certain shows are more impressive than others. The bigger the crowd, the more moments you get to create within the memories of prospective fans.

I’ve performed so little this year that I feel forgotten sometimes. Today will be a chance to remind them. I feel we’re better than ever.

Either way this is another notch on the belt.

We’re really in that tier that can do bigger shows and now we got to let them know

By myself I can hold down a 60 minute set without features. As a team, we got such a good mishmash of songs we’d keep any crowd entertained. There’s still a lot of money making for me this year, but the excitement of this show has gotten my appetite wet. The competitor in me has awakened.

After this show I’ll probably go perform at Growve for a while as I stack money.

Word is, you may just catch me at a park near you with a PA system rapping too.

Live long and prosper everyone
