If you're ever wondering whether a country party will be done by 1:30 AM, don’t stress it, them ragers go all night.
There was a food shoot Bonnie and I went to in the Old Port of Montreal around 8:30 PM last night. It was a lovely 3 course meal with cocktails and we only got back to the crib around 11:15 PM. I was faced with the choice of driving to Gould, Quebec to see if the party was still popping around 1:30 AM, or just go in the morning.
Turns out the party was in fact popping at 1:30 AM and would go for a few more hours.
This party was Nanofest 2024, this little festival at a campground not far from Gould.
While I don’t have proof the whole weekend was amazing, from what I heard I missed out on some good times.
Plomberie got booked to perform at Nanofest at 2:00 PM on this Sunday
I woke up relatively early for a Sunday and was on the road around 9 in the morning. It was a solid 2 hours and 15 mins to get to where I thought the campground was. Turns out the address from the GPS brought me 12 KM south of where I needed to be. Thank Goodness for the directions button on the Nanofest site.
The drive down was pretty good and what mattered was I arrived before 1 PM, which was a mission I accomplished.
I was there to perform the freshly recorded Supersnake and jump on a couple of others with the freestyling.
After trekking my way across Quebec, I finally saw this artist's entrance sign and realized I found the place.
Checking out the McVetty-McKenzie Bridge Campsite
The campsite, I think that’s what it is, was next to the McVetty-McKenzie bridge.
I walked down this hill with my bag of merch and checked in. I was given an artist's pass that entitled me to two free drinks at the bar. Drinks that I happily consumed.
The main area was this open field with a stage on one side. There were cool structures and random couches all over. The MC announcer guy literally climbed up a tower like on some mediaeval shit to announce each act.
There was a little bar/cafe next to a little restaurant. A couple of vendors were there and someone definitely had a tattoo tent.
The area was surrounded by hilly walls and forests that connected with this river.
There were definitely some nudist swimming going on in the river.
Hippie Quebec is a vibe for real.
Plomberie used their plumbing skills to survive the rain
My understanding is there was a wide variety of cool, upbeat music going on during the rest of the festival.
Plomberie was the last act of the weekend. Before they went on was this vocal choir group. They surrounded their audience and sang to them while encircling them. Later on they did some choiring in the river. Swimming and harmonies should be the name of their next tape.
Plomberie started their set as I was getting some coffee. Then I jumped on stage for song 2, which was Supersnake, and the game was on. About halfway through it started pouring rain so bad we had to put the merch away.
Sucks, because we lost the come support our art hustle flex when the show was done.
Overall Plomberie killed it, so did the other invited guests. I get to dance in the rain with a bunch of folk I never met in the middle of the woods. While my Montreal peers would clown on me for it, this was an excellent way to spend a Sunday.
Make sure to get a little muddy sometimes.
