It’s Okay To Take Time Away From The Grind For Real Life

Today is the first evening I’m home in a week.
Between socializing and hustling I’ve been out there congregating with others and making things happen. Today I faced the typical choice of what I should do before I realized it’s probably worth just going to the grocery store.
I did laundry today. I took down the recycling (which was overflowing and required two trips) and dealt with some dishes.
There are a lot of regular chores people do all the time that I let pile up in my pursuit of other goals.
For all you hustlers out there struggling to keep your life together, I want to remind you that stopping to deal with your life is still hustling.
There’s a lot of things we neglect over the course of a week
When I set out to achieve everything in a week it all feels so idealistic.
Then my days blend together as the immediate grind comes to life. I fill my calendar and don’t spend enough time focusing on things like what’s in my fridge. This leads to more ordering food. That leads to needing to make more money. This is followed by a need for even more work.
It’s a truly unsustainable cycle unless for you it works.
For me I need to remember that regular stuff needs attending too.
When you are facing an open night, it’s okay to just stay home and let it be more open ended.
Do some chores here and there, it clears the mind.
It’s also a good idea to plan some recreational moments
I know too many people who forget to take time for recreation.
People confuse this with wasted time. Recreation is simply time you plan for fun. It’s important to give yourself a bit of time for this. Obviously there are weeks where you have to go overtime and fun is sacrificed. Most weeks you can afford to take a couple of hours to give your brain a chance to recharge.
It’s about control and moderation, like everything else in life.
However, too many people forget to allow themselves some fun and then start to resent life.
Either find work you are more passionate about or give your brain the break it deserves.
Basically it’s okay if here and there you find yourself having human moments
Personally my grind is really efficient for months and then for a few weeks I operate at a lower level.
Inevitably my inefficiency catches up with me. I slow down and recalibrate. I catch up on the things nagging in my mind. Then when I’m really good I take the time to plan in a way that accounts for what life looks like now.
Which unfortunately is super irregular and makes me feel sleep deprived a lot.
When I let my body catch up on some rest I can get my focus again and hit things with the proper vigour again.
Basically the grind should never be ignored, but you can take a few days here and there to deal with your life.
