First Toronto Performance... Sort Of

Holden Stephan Roy getting scannec

To my dismay Etobicoke is technically where I performed, this is not Toronto. It's like if I said I performed in Longeuil, that's not Montreal, it's adjacent. Today's show is in the Kensington Market area.

I am a touch hungover and flying on hormones and endorphines. Yesterday was a fun day. One of those nights that you do the boring grind for.

Now I need to go hit the Timmies and get my super mid coffee.

The Airbnb is nice

We get to the Airbnb about 15 minutes before checkin. We wait ten and head in.

There are 3 rooms with 4 beds across them. My room had two single beds. Haché and his lady took the double bed. Rozwel grabbed the other room with the bed.

The last room had a couch. Shobiz514 was like fuck sharing a room with Holden, I'm on the coach. That's my version, his is that the couch was longer than the bed.

Mid kitchen area there is the step of doom.

I think I stumbled over this step easily 20 times. Drunk me, later on, did not, silly not drunk me.

Step of doom

There's a little smoking balcony area. It's quaint and serves the goal. It's nicer today in the sun.

Off to the venue

My man NuclearConvoy (who drew the pickle and is now NC) pulled up. He is my best friend and lives in Toronto. Prior to moving there, he was my roommate.

Rozwel, Shobiz, NC and I pile into the Smoking Ink whip and head off. We end up arriving at this karaoke bar and find parking fast fast. Finding parking in Tdot is no fun.

But we were in Etobicoke.

We arrived and the spot was cool. Had a clear area for the show and a couple of other rooms. Everyone was hungry but we needed to sign in.

The set list was determined based on a first come, first serve basis. As a promoter I like this idea, as an artist it's booooo.

We all got our slots and then it was off to find food. Full disclosure, I was already tipsy at this point, details are not my friend the rest of the night.

Pizza and action figures

Holden at the bar

We walking around as I spiked my Cherry Coke with Kraken. The first direction we went was a bust. The other way lead to a pizza spot.

They had 2 mediums for five dollars. We jumped at that and split that right quick. I will edit a food review for TikTok and try to remember to add it here.

The sauce was amazing.

The other thing to comment on is the action figure scan. The pic opening this blog is me being scanned. If all goes well I will become a collector's item.

It's all a question of bread.

Fred E. Fame threw a well structured vibe

There were like 50 performers. I'm not going to review it all like I may normally do. I will say the 8 Montreal acts dominated the night. I crushed my set, stripped and gave out my 20.

Let's be real, all the Montree folk are tenured artists branching out. A lot of the Toronto side was newer artists. Interesting mix but objectivity gives PRSPCTV.

The doors opened ar 7 PM. The show started at 8:15 PM. Punctual, I like that a lot.

The show was a nonstop barrage of set after set. Each set was one, two, five or ten minutes. This wa$ prearranged with u$ beforehand, wink wink.

I had 10 minutes as this trip already a fiscal L. May as well do the networking.

I really enjoyed most of the music I heard last night. Special love to Honey Benjamin for crushing her first performance, 514 stand up. Here's a candid shot of us.

I met so many cool people

This was a true networking event. I put that effort into doing that to the fullest. With that, shoutout Aneesa Badshaw, newest member of the pickle clan.

There were also interviews happening. I got interviewed twice. The lovely Nikki Victorious was there and talked to me. It was fun.

I also talked to the Down to Earth podcast man. He had mics and a whole setup, I enjoyed it a lot. Basically it was like 514OnlineMix was there.

I gained 25 Insta followers easy. So many people tagged me in stories. People want me to chill right now, had to tell the person I got to finish the blog first.

Slomo is a vibe

I met Slomo in Montreal at the Killah Priest show. He was a young man with an energy I liked. We got sturdy together. Here's my song from that night.

No one showed more love than Slomo. He turned up for everyone. He smiled big and supported unapologetically.

I like his music. He gives a good young person pop energy. He's 20, and Jamaican about his business.

If more of us had Slomo's fearlessness we'd be farther in life. Slomo has #NOREGARD.

Disappointing chicken but a great night

We got an Uber back to the Airbnb. Smoking Ink had another gig and were gonesos. Shobiz, NC and I headed to Popeyes.

We did not get a sandwich. Drunk us got pieces. Big mistake.

We ate, revelled in the parts of the night left unsaid and NC dipped.

Anyone can said whatever about Fred E. Fame. I got hella ROI off the night. Stoked to go rap again today.

But I got to go enjoy the sun. Tomorrow's blog will have more info.

Sorry if this one's a little sloppier.
