Act Like You Lo - 2nd Edition Was A Celebration of Polo & Hip Hop

In the middle of Chinatown is this little spot called Nirvana Tattoo that Olivier Brault got for the Act Like You Lo - 2nd Edition.

This event is a showcase of private Polo pieces from various people in Montreal. They were out on display, organized by theme. The event inspired many to come decked out in their finest Lo, at probably one of the only events all year where people will appreciate it to the fullest.

The event also doubled as a concert showcase of some powerful names from the seminal years of Montreal’s English Hip Hop scene.

It was my second event this weekend where I saw my peers come together for the shared love of the culture we built together and the one we’re inspired by from New York City.

Granted some of the people in the room definitely stole some Polo in NYC.

Public Advisory: Read the event details

What I did not realize until after I arrived was that it was bring all liquids you plan to consume, water included.

Everyone else knew that but me, so clearly it was written somewhere and I ignored it. There was also no ATM/way to pay for anything with Interac. What they did have was a room full of Polo and some amazing Chopped Cheese from Caro’s Bodega

The homie Flacko Bayo brought me to the place that invented the chopped cheese in Manhattan, it’s great to know we got an option here.Still once I was hydrated and funded, I was able to experience the greatness of the night.

But don’t be like me and have to walk to the store twice because you ignored the clear instructions provided by our gracious host, Olivier.

The ambiance truly set the mood for success

From the second you walk in it felt like the tattoo shop had been converted into a Polo museum.

I’m relatively new to the Lo world, but everyone in the room gave respect to the items on display. I wore my Polo shoes, but most people came decked in some nice, unique looking pieces. Everyone seemed to recognize and admire each piece for what it was.

Olivier brought the people who love Lo together in a single place, with an ambiance that almost guaranteed they’d be happier upon arrival.

A lot of the time the events I go to are simply the bar we are always at. Olivier made the tattoo spot play dress up and created a vibe. From the Hip Hop Cafe until today, the man has an eye for making things dope.

We can all try a little harder to make it look cool.

RVLR Magz, Troy Dunnit & Loe Pesci did their thing

Eazy El Dee was spinning classic tunes to set the mood before the rapping started.

I missed the first 2.5 hours. Partly because I was driving Uber, partly because it took me 40 minutes to find parking (I had to Olivier… I had to). I arrived to a lot of people I knew giving wild love.

I’m pretty sure Pro V did the DJ work for the whole rap show part. He’s a cool dude. Big love to the work he does.

Inevitably the show started with Loe Pesci performing masterfully. Every syllable came in crisp and clean. Following him was Troy Dunnit who brought us back (or really for me it was new stuff) to a classic era. I appreciate his confidence and skill.

Finally Magnum came through showcasing reseal expertise. The thing about RVLR Magz is that his performance comes with this reputation that carries weight. People sing his shit word for word.

That being said his skills as an MC shine through. From pulling back the song to bringing big love to the room. Go see Magnum live if you get the chance.

Shoutout to the Brault-man, I had fun.

Live Long and Prosper Everyone
